DEAR PARENTS and GUARDIANS:
The School District of Philadelphia holds the well-being, health, and safety of students and staff as a top priority. With this in mind, we are writing to update you on an evolving health issue involving the coronavirus.
We are working closely with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and carefully taking the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To date, there are no confirmed cases in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia residents are at low risk of becoming infected.
Read on for more information about the coronavirus and what you and your children can do to protect yourselves and others from the spread of all types of viruses.
How is the coronavirus spread?
Coughing and Sneezing
Touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes
Close contact with people
What are the symptoms?
Fever
Shortness of breath
Cough
How can I help protect myself?
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze – and wash your hands afterward
If you are sick, stay home until your fever is gone for 24 hours
Avoid putting fingers in your mouth, ears, or eyes
